As a teacher of secondary mathematics for over 20 years in public, private, and charter schools, I understand students. I have developed a rich understanding of how to teach mathematics in a way that is understandable and relatable. I help students navigate around common math mistakes and help them to develop a deeper understanding of the processes involved in becoming a successful math student. I am able to quickly assess students’ strengths and areas for growth in order to help them reach the next level of understanding with confidence and competence.I am passionate about teaching young people, seeing them grow and become more confident in their abilities while learning math. I know that this confidence spills over into other areas of students’ lives. I have a deep commitment to every student being successful in math and beyond.

Hello! I am Michael Leverentz.

Teaching young people is a great joy of mine. Seeing them grow and strengthen themselves while learning math. I have a deep commitment to every student being successful in math.

I am able to connect and engage my students, creating a safe, supportive environment for learning. I am curious and interested in all the activities they are involved and participating in and make connections with students so that they understand I am invested in their lives.

My interests include hiking, biking, being in nature, and enjoying time with family and friends. I support local performing arts: theater, dance and music. I grew up going to the Children’s Theater of Minneapolis with my parents and have continued that tradition with my children.

All of first semester I was really struggling with precalculus -- I went down a negative spiral of thinking I wasn't good enough or smart enough to be in the honors math class. But during the second semester I started meeting with Michael and not only my grades but also my attitude towards myself as a math student rose exponentially. I learned through getting a tutor that it's not impossible to bounce back from a low-zone and that it's always okay to need and to ask for help.
